Welcome to Yorkshire Storks

Due partly to the recurring problem of accessing birth indemnity cover, and the closure of the successful partnership with Airedale NHS, Yorkshire Storks is in the process of (very amicable!) disbanding. Chris can be contacted at birthyorkstorks@aol.com, Debs’s new venture can be found here, and Sharyn is re-inventing herself as The Online Midwife. And together, we ARE still running our well-loved Aspiring Midwives Study Days in 2021.

True independent midwifery is under threat again, and a new group, Childbirth Choices Matter, a collective of women, doulas, NHS and independent midwives have come together to campaign to improve options for birthing folks, initially with this fundraising drive (please help if you can!) which aims to create an affordable, ethical indemnity product. The White Ribbon Alliance will be caretaking funds raised.

We are an experienced team, made up of 3 midwives, offering care in your home.  We provide family centred, evidence based care and information about pregnancy, birth and parenting.

Yorkshire Storks Independent MidwivesAll Yorkshire Storks believe that giving birth is part of a continuum, a life event and that supportive, enabling midwifery helps keep everything normal. We believe that respectful care and birth at home improves the outcomes for most women but back up help and intervention in hospital is sometimes necessary and at times most sensible. We are of course happy to support those who feel that hospital birth is best for them and their family.

You can book for our services directly as we can liaise with your GP and the NHS maternity service.  We offer complete midwifery care from the minute you know you are pregnant to at least six weeks after the birth of your baby. You can see our range of packages here.   Even if you have booked with the NHS you can change your mind at any time and easily transfer to us for your care, or you can run your NHS care alongside ours.

No more waiting in Ante Natal Clinic

We can plan your visits around your work or family commitments at times to suit you and your partner.  Our visits are unhurried, relaxed and friendly enabling us to get to know each other and explore what is important to you. Occasionally we may need to reschedule a visit when we are attending another client who is birthing or in unexpected need of us. This flexibility means we can be similarly responsive to you in time of need, which we hope you find reassuring.

IMG_0048IolantheWe cover most of Yorkshire and occasionally travel further afield.  Just contact us so we can arrange a ‘no obligation’ consultation for a small fee to discuss the services we offer in more detail. We celebrate diversity of all kinds and are LGBTQ-friendly.

News from the Team
